Discovery Academy of Science
Academics at Discovery Academy of Science
Discovery Academy of Science provides a rigorous, engaging academic experience built around STEM+R: Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Reading.
Our approach combines strong foundational skills, hands-on learning, critical thinking, collaboration, and targeted student support. Students are encouraged to ask questions, investigate ideas, solve problems, and apply what they learn to the world around them.
Our Academic Approach
Strong Foundations. Meaningful Learning.
At DAS, academic instruction is designed to challenge students while providing the support they need to grow.
Our classrooms combine research-based curriculum, project-based learning, progress monitoring, enrichment, and personalized instruction to help students build confidence and develop strong academic habits.
Students are encouraged to ask questions, explore ideas, collaborate with others, and apply what they learn in meaningful ways. By combining high expectations with hands-on experiences and targeted support, we help students develop the knowledge, independence, and problem-solving skills they need for continued success.
What Defines Learning at DAS
Literacy Foundations
Students build strong reading, writing, vocabulary, and communication skills across every grade level.
Mathematical Thinking
Students develop number sense, problem-solving skills, reasoning, and confidence through rigorous mathematics instruction.
Hands-On Science
Inquiry, experiments, and real-world phenomena help students understand scientific concepts through discovery.
Technology & Engineering
Students use technology, design thinking, and engineering concepts to create, test, and improve solutions.
Real-World Problem Solving
Project-based learning helps students connect academic concepts to meaningful challenges and practical applications.
Individualized Support
Progress monitoring, intervention, enrichment, and MTSS help address individual student strengths and needs.
STEM+R at the Core
Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics + Reading
STEM+R is more than a collection of subjects at Discovery Academy of Science. It is an approach to learning that encourages students to explore, question, collaborate, and create.
Reading and communication skills are integrated across STEM learning so students can explain their thinking, evaluate information, and clearly communicate solutions.
Through classroom instruction, labs, projects, technology, robotics, and enrichment opportunities, students develop skills that support success both inside and outside the classroom.
Academic Areas
Reading & Literacy
Build strong readers, writers, and communicators through structured literacy and engaging texts.
Mathematics
Develop confidence, reasoning, and problem-solving through rigorous and connected math instruction.
Science
Explore scientific concepts through investigation, experimentation, and real-world inquiry.
Robotics & Enrichment
Extend learning through coding, engineering, robotics, competitions, and hands-on STEM experiences.
Supporting Every Learner
Challenge, Support, and Growth
Students do not all learn at the same pace or in the same way. DAS uses academic data, classroom performance, and ongoing assessment to identify areas where students may need additional support or greater challenge.
Teachers use progress monitoring and MTSS strategies to provide targeted intervention, enrichment, and differentiated learning opportunities designed around student needs.

Beyond the Classroom
Learning That Goes Further
Academic learning at DAS extends beyond traditional classroom instruction. Students may participate in robotics, science competitions, engineering challenges, coding, science fairs, and other enrichment opportunities that build teamwork, persistence, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
