Everything Families Need for a Successful School Year
The Discovery Academy of Science Student & Parent Handbook is an important resource for students and families. It outlines school expectations, procedures, student responsibilities, academic policies, attendance requirements, behavior guidelines, uniform standards, health and safety information, and other important school procedures.
Families are encouraged to review the handbook together and keep it available throughout the school year as a reference. The 2026–2027 handbook also includes the DAS Family Contract, which families are asked to review and acknowledge.

Attendance & School Day
Policies covering absences, tardiness, early dismissal, make-up work, vacations, and reporting attendance concerns.
Code of Conduct
Student responsibilities, behavior expectations, disciplinary procedures, and guidelines designed to maintain a safe and productive learning environment.
Academics & Student Support
Information about instructional programs, academic expectations, textbooks, MTSS, Exceptional Student Education, and other student services.
Uniform & Dress Code
Requirements for daily uniforms, acceptable clothing, dress-down days, appearance, and consequences for dress-code violations.
Activities & Transportation
Guidelines for extracurricular activities, field trips, car riders, walkers, bike riders, and other school-day procedures.

Procedures for illness, injuries, medications, emergencies, and other health and safety matters affecting students during the school day.

A successful school community depends on cooperation between students, families, teachers, and staff.
The DAS Family Contract asks families to support regular attendance, academic responsibility, school communication, appropriate behavior, uniform expectations, carline procedures, and involvement in their child’s education. Students are likewise expected to understand and follow the policies and expectations described in the handbook.
Families should review the handbook together so students understand what is expected of them and parents know where to find important policies and procedures throughout the year.
Important Policies at a Glance
Attendance
Regular attendance for the full school day is essential. Absences, tardies, and early sign-outs may be classified as excused or unexcused, and repeated attendance issues can result in additional school intervention.
Student Conduct
Students are expected to take responsibility for their choices and contribute to a safe, respectful, and distraction-free learning environment. The handbook explains consequences for minor and serious violations.
Uniforms
Students are expected to arrive in the complete DAS uniform and remain properly dressed throughout the school day. Detailed requirements for tops, bottoms, footwear, accessories, and dress-down days are provided in the handbook.
Student Support
DAS provides academic and student support through services including MTSS and Exceptional Student Education, along with extracurricular and enrichment opportunities.
Parent Concerns
Families are encouraged to first address concerns with the teacher or staff member involved. Unresolved concerns can be elevated to the principal and, when necessary, the Governing Board Parent Representative.
